Saddam Hussein: a middle eastern tyrant who was once a key Western ally. A remorseless leader who pushed his people into a bloody war with Iran (1980-88), gassed his own country’s Kurdish minority (1988), invaded Kuwait, then underwent the first US Army incursion (1991). In March 2003, when President Bush attacked Iraq on the pretext it had weapons of mass destruction, Saddam became a symbol.
From his sentencing to death on November 5th, 2006, to the chaos in Iraq after his demise: an investigation about the Iraqi dictator that mixes personal accounts from people who knew him well, from family members to his fiercest enemies.
